The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) has enabled noteworthy contributions to be made in all societal benefit categories that were established by the Group on Earth Observations to guide development of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems. Examples of ASTER utility highlight the positive results achieved through well-crafted policies, responsive system implementation teams, and skilled researchers. Such models may serve as guides for future mission planning.
