Abstract | The role of government in promoting space commerce is a topic of discussion in every spacefaring nation. This article describes a new approach to government intervention which, based on its five-year track record, appears to have met with success. The approach, developed in NASAs Earth Observations Commercialization Application Program (EOCAP), offers several lessons for effective government sponsorship of commercial space development in general and of commercial remote sensing in particular. | |
